Help with Reports : "Prompted by" List

The “prompted by” list refers to a select list of reasons why the Department is engaged in a particular rulemaking. DOT may be required to issue a particular rule because of a:

• Statute
• Secretarial/Head of Operating Administration Directive
• Presidential Directive
• Court Action
• International Agreement

For many rulemakings there is no special prompting action.
